Lacrosse Stunned As Holy Family Surges In Second Half

PHILADELPHIA – Holy Family (3-8, 2-2 CACC) rallied in the second half, outscoring the Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse team (3-6, 2-1 CACC), 12-1, over the final two quarters to shock the Rams, 15-13, in a conference game on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jefferson dominated early on, netting the game's first seven goals. Carina Raymond, Erin Avanzato, and Madison Caffrey each scored twice during the stretch that ended with 2:11 remaining in the opening quarter. The Tigers got on the board at the 1:39 mark before the Rams strung together four in a row to up the margin to 10 (11-1) with 10:13 to go in the second.

The difference remained 10 (12-2) with 5:31 left in the half before Holy Family closed the period with a goal to cut it to nine at the intermission. Jefferson used a 13-3 advantage in draw controls and 20-11 edge in shots to build its lead.

The Tigers potted the first three goals of the third quarter to close the gap to six (12-6). Audrey Strock found the back of the net to make it 13-6 Rams with 6:26 to play in the frame. However, it would be the last tally for Jefferson as Holy Family improbably scored nine unanswered goals to finish the contest and stun the visitors. The Tigers held the Rams to just two shots in the fourth quarter and had a 7-1 advantage in draw controls while outscoring Jefferson, 7-0, in the final period.
