Lacrosse Tames Wildcats, Secures CACC Playoff Spot

PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse team (7-7, 6-2 CACC) locked up a CACC Tournament spot with a 21-12 victory over visiting Wilmington (10-5, 6-2 CACC) on Wednesday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats struck first at the 13:00 mark of the opening quarter. However, the Rams answered with seven straight goals to finish the period and take a 7-1 lead into the second. Gabby Modzelewski led the way with three tallies while Ellie Lefton and Erin Avanzato netted two apiece. Wilmington recovered to outscore Jefferson, 6-2, in the second period and get within two (9-7) at halftime. The Wildcats won seven of the nine draws in the frame.
 
The Rams regained the momentum to begin the third, producing the first three goals of the quarter, two of which came from Carina Raymond. Wilmington followed with two of the next three to close the gap to four (13-9) but Jefferson ended the stanza with a 5-1 run to lead 18-10. Audrey Strock and Modzelewski each scored twice during the stretch. The Rams outscored the Wildcats, 3-2, in the fourth to finish off the win.

CACC PLAYOFF PICTURE
With two games remaining in the regular season, Jefferson sits in third place in the CACC. The Rams are still in the running for a bye to the semifinals. Jefferson can clinch at least a first-round home game on Saturday with a win at Felician plus a loss by either Wilmington or Holy Family.
