Lacrosse Grounds Griffins In Regular Season Finale, Earns First-Round Bye In CACC Tournament

LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – The Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse team (9-8, 8-2 CACC) finished the regular season with a 24-3 win at Chestnut Hill (6-10, 3-7 CACC) on Saturday.
 
The victory, coupled with Wilmington's defeat of Georgian Court, gave the Rams the second seed and a first-round bye for this week's CACC Tournament. Jefferson will play in the semifinals on Saturday, May 6th at 2:30 p.m. versus the winner of the first-round contest between third-seeded Wilmington and sixth-seeded Bridgeport. The conference semifinals and final are being held at Post University.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams dominated early, getting out to a 10-0 lead with less than 10 minutes elapsed in the opening quarter. Erin Avanzato and Audrey Strock led the barrage with three goals each. After the Griffins got on the board, Jefferson netted another six in a row before Chestnut Hill found the back of the net again to make the score 16-2 at halftime. The Rams outscored the Griffins, 8-1, in the second half. Jefferson controlled the draws by a 21-9 count during the contest.
