#6/10 Women's Basketball Stays Unbeaten in Conference Play; Wins Six Straight Over Caldwell
PHILADELPHIA – The #6/10 ranked Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball team (15-1, 5-0) allowed only two made baskets in the first half while continuing to stay unbeaten in conference play as the Rams rolled over Caldwell University ((4-9, 1-3) 72-50 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action this Sunday afternoon.
WHAT HAPPENED
The Cougars started the game with a three-pointer by Jahnel Lewis, but would not secure another basket for the remainder of the period as Jefferson went on a 19-0 run for the next 8:41 seconds.
Haley Meinel would register two of her career-high six blocks in the game to help a Rams defense allow Caldwell to go 1-14 on the floor.
Sam Yencha would score six of her team-leading 21 points in the first while
Cassie Murphy had two layups in that timespan.
Morgan Robinson would also get in the scoring action with a jumper while
Emma Kuczynski would hit a three to send Jefferson to the second up 19-3.
The Rams would continue their success, with only allowing only one Caldwell shot to make it, a three pointer by Sophia DeMauro, and a free throw as Jefferson outscored the Cougars 12-4 in the second. Murphy and Yencha would both get rebounds early in the game, with 13 and 11 respectively, as they would each register a double double in the game. Robinson would have another basket alongside
Emily Keehfuss and
Jordyn Thomas. The game would be low scoring for the most part, with only four points scored between both teams in the last three minutes as Jefferson went into the break up 31-7.
Caldwell would begin to get closer in the game, as they would hit their first two shots and make a pair of free throws to have it at 39-13 in favor of Jefferson. After Amyah Bray made it 45-21 with 5:03 left in the third, Murphy and Yencha would each have a layup to get Jefferson's lead up by four more points. Eventually, the Rams would head into the fourth up 57-28.
Caldwell would cut into the Rams lead in the fourth, outscoring Jefferson 22-15 in this period. They would score six of the first eight points to trail 59-34 before Yencha made a layup while
Kaya Burkhart hit a jumper. The Cougars would then score 10 straight points to get within 19 with 3:58 left to go in the game. The Rams would keep Caldwell at a distance in the last few minutes of the game, outscoring them 9-6 to help Jefferson stay undefeated in conference play and win their six straight game 72-50.
