Strong Second Half Helps Women's Lacrosse Take CACC Win over Georgian Court
 
PHILADELPHIA – Trailing the Lions 10-6 at the half, the Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse team (2-3, 2-0) was able to rack up 10 goals in the second half while only allowing two as the Rams defeated Georgian Court University (5-5, 1-1) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action this Wednesday afternoon.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
Erin Avanzato scored an early goal for Jefferson, less than 15 seconds into the contest, but Georgian Court racked up three straight to get ahead of the Rams. Carina Raymond put her shot in the net to make it 3-2 after one quarter.
 
The Lions put up another goal to begin the second, but E. Avanazato and Raymond responded with one goal each to tie it at 4-4 with 11:47 in the second quarter. Georgian Court looked to make a statement in the conference, putting up four straight goals to make it 8-4. Raymond and Audrey Strock had their shots make the net, but the Lions saw two straight goals from Riley O'Connor in the last two minutes of the first half to head into the break up 10-6.
 
The Rams looked to not be fazed in the second half, scoring six straight goals, all in the third quarter, to reclaim the lead 12-10. Raymond started it off with a goal off of a Gabby Modzelewski assist. Lynn Hardy followed suit by a Ellie Lefton pass to make it into the net. Lefton and Modzelewski made their own shots in the third, with E. Avanzato and Audrey Strock finishing the scoring barrage for Jefferson.
 
Georgian Court was able to have a goal by Remi Reinhardt with a man up for the first and last goal in the fourth quarter, but the Rams made four of their own shots to the back of the next during that stretch. E. Avanzato, Modzelewski, Strock, and Raymond all scored to secure Jefferson's 16-12 win and go 2-0 in conference play. This is the first win for Jefferson has over Georgian Court in 10 games, as the Lions were on a nine-game winning streak over the Rams.
