Women's Basketball Defeats Georgian Court for Fourth Straight Win


LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Giving a stellar performance in the first and third quarter with 20+ points scored, the Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball team (13-6, 7-2) earn their fourth straight victory as the Rams went on the road to beat Georgian Court University (3-18, 3-6) 75-60 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South action. 

WHAT HAPPENED 

  • Jefferson opened the first with a 22-point attack, led by Emma Kuczynski with eight points during the opening 10 minutes. She delivered on two three pointers and a layup. Gabby Recinto put up six points on the quarter, leading to both her and Kuczynski with a team-leading 18 on the day 

  • Cassie Murphy and Emily Spratt added a basket to begin the first while Jordyn Thomas and Tori Nigro secured their shots to end the quarter. Recinto also added five of her 13 rebounds in the first, helping her earn a double double on the day 

  • The Rams kept their attack going, but the Lions held their own as they outscored Jefferson 18-17 

  • Kuczynski put up six points early in the second with Spratt added a basket as well. Murphy hit two free throws and a layup. She also accumulated four of her 11 rebounds in the second, the same amount as the first quarter, to earn a double double as well 

  • The Rams brought their shooting into the third as they put up 23 points. This helped hold off a fierce Georgian Court team that replicated their last quarter with 18 points 

  • Recinto took over the third quarter with nine points, going 4-4 on the floor which included a three pointer and an and-one attempt. Murphy followed behind with six points, helping her to earn 16 on the day 

  • Nigro put up four points while Spratt made her basket and Kuczynski went 2-2 on the charity stripe to get the Rams ahead 62-48 going to the fourth 

  • Both defenses stepped up to hold each other to low scoring totals in the fourth. Jefferson had 13 points in the final 10 minutes while the Lions only produced 12 

  • Murphy put up four points in the final 10 minutes with Recinto adding three. Kuczynski, Nigro, and Mikulski added a basket apiece to end the game as Jefferson held onto a 75-60 victory

Jefferson will now return to the Gallagher Center on Saturday, February 1 when they go against Bloomfield College in CACC action at 12 p.m.
