Women's Basketball Falls in CACC Finals to No.25 Holy Family
PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball (24-7) looked to repeat as CACC Champions as they competed in the CACC Tournament Finals for the second consecutive year. The Rams fought back in a game they trailed, but were unable to secure a lead as Jefferson fell 77-68 to No.25 Holy Family University (24-6) on Sunday afternoon.
WHAT HAPPENED
- The Tigers were hot in their shooting all day, shooting 49.2% on the floor and 38.1% from beyond the arc.
- Jefferson trailed 10-8 as Cassie Murphy and Emily Spratt put up four points apiece before a 13-7 run put Holy Family ahead after one quarter
- The second quarter saw both teams score 20+ points. Murphy had 10 of her game-leading 24 points in the second. Emma Kuczynski had five points, Kaya Burkhart put up a three, and Spratt made a layup to trail in the half 44-35
- A 16 point third allowed the Rams to get back in the game, even tying it up at 48-48 on a Gabby Recinto layup. The Tigers retook the lead to the fourth, but Kuczynski made it a three-point game off her shot before the final quarter
- Jefferson tried to get back in the game, but Holy Family kept pulling away as they got into double digits with under two to go. The Rams made it a nine-point game but were unable to close the gap as the Tigers claimed the CACC Championship over the Rams
