Women's Basketball Unable to Hold Off Holy Family
PHILADELPHIA – In a rematch of last year's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championships game from last March, Thomas Jefferson University (9-5, 3-3) looked to get payback against their city rivals from down the highway in Holy Family University (10-3, 5-0) on Tuesday night. After trailing for a good portion of the first half and earning the lead in the third quarter, the Rams could not stop the Tigers attack as Jefferson fell 69-50 against Holy Family in CACC competition.
WHAT HAPPENED
- The first half went in favor of Holy Family as they outscored Jefferson 13-12 in the first quarter and 19-13 in the second. The Rams fought during those quarters as they took the lead 20-19 with 5:46 left in the second off a Tori Nigro layup. The Tigers lead 31-26 at the break
- Jefferson got on the right track in the third, outscoring Holy Family 18-17. They used an 12-6 run to take the lead with 4:29 left in the third from an Emily Spratt three pointer. The Tigers regained it and went in the fourth only up four points
- Jefferson looked to be in prime position to cut Holy Family's lead, but a 21-6 fourth quarter halted that attempt as the Rams fell to the Tigers 69-50
- Spratt led Jefferson with 16 points with Nigro and Gabby Recinto adding nine apiece. Caleigh Sperling produced seven off the bench. Carolyn Sipprell added seven rebounds with Nigro dished out five assists
