MILLERSVILLE, PA – Thomas Jefferson University baseball (0-3) completed their first doubleheader of the season as they took on Millersville University (8-4) in Wednesday afternoon action. The Rams fell in both contests to the Marauders.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: L, 9-5
  • Jefferson got out to an early lead as Thomas Matuzewski had an RBI double at right center while Andrew Holub singles to the left side and brough Matuszewski home to make it 2-0 at the top of the first inning. Millersville answered back with a one-run double and single in the bottom of the same inning
  • Justin Egner gave the Rams the lead as he scored on a wild pitch. Matuszeski added to it with a two-run double to left center, making it 5-2 after the top of the second. Millersville replicated Jefferson's score once more as a two-run single and a sacrifice flyout to the right field had it tied up 5-5 after two innings
  • Millersville took control with three runs in the fourth inning from a single and two-run homerun while adding another run in the sixth to have it 9-5
  • Jefferson loaded the bases with the tying run at the plate at the top of the seventh but a strikeout ended their comeback, having the Rams drop game one
  • Kevin Baez started fir Jefferson, pitching 3.1 innings with four strikeouts. AJ Lefton (1.2 innings) and Patrick Karbach (1.0 innings) came in relief on the mound

  • Jefferson once again took the lead early on in the second inning as Holub brought Matuszewski home on a single to left center for a 1-0 lead
  • Millersville responded with three runs in the third inning. An error in the outfield brought two runners in while a sacrifice flyout tacked on one more as the Marauders held a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third
  • Jefferson got on the board as, with the bases loaded, a walk got them on the board and had them trail by one in the top of the fourth
  • Millersville had another bounce go their way as a triple was advanced to homeplate on an error that had the Marauders up by two once again
  • Jay Salbery cut the lead down to one in the sixth inning as a single to right field brought Julio Frometa Gomez home and made it 4-3 in the sixth
  • Jefferson had an opportunity to take the lead in the seventh with a tying run on first and one out. Millersville converted on a double play that ended the Rams comeback hopes and dropped their second game on the day
  • Tyler Behm started for Jefferson and pitched four innings, allowing three hits and three runs, only one being earned, while striking out 2 batters. Aiden Barbour pitched one third of an inning while Saiben Rivera finished the rest of the games for the Rams

Jefferson will now head to The Ripken Experience Aberdeen in Aberdeen, Maryland as the Rams take on Southern New Hampshire University in a two-day doubleheader on Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8. Both games first pitch will be thrown at 12 p.m.
