Philadelphia, PA- Philadelphia University Baseball Interim Head Coach John DiMeglio has announced the hiring of Dick DeLaney as an additional assistant coach for the Rams this season, effective immediately.

"I am excited to be adding Dick Delaney to the staff.  To have an assistant who is already a member of the Philadelphia University Athletic Hall of Fame is a huge plus.  I'm looking forward to combining our skill sets and continuing to improve Ram baseball,” said Coach DiMeglio.

“Coach DeLaney’s pedigree speaks for itself- it’s a pleasure to welcome him aboard,” said PhilaU Athletic Director Tom Shirley.

DeLaney currently serves as an assistant men’s basketball coach at PhilaU, as he helped the Rams to the NCAA Sweet 16 this season.

“Baseball is a great game and this will be my second time around with the Rams, so I hope to help the players and staff in any and all capacities that I’m needed,” said DeLaney.

A 1969 West Chester University graduate, DeLaney is a PhilaU Athletic Hall of Famer with over 41 years of coaching experience.  He served as the WCU Head Men’s basketball coach for 21 seasons, retiring in 2008 as the school’s all-time wins leader (370-213).  While at WCU, Coach DeLaney was a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) ‘Coach of the Year’ five times.

No stranger to Henry Ave., DeLaney previously taught and coached at PhilaU (1975-87), working as head baseball and tennis coach while also serving in an assistant capacity in men’s basketball and soccer.

He is also a member of the WCU Hall of Fame (as both a player and coach) and the Philadelphia Area Small College Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
