PHILADELPHIA – Senior first baseman Steven Wells (Yardley, Pa./The Hun School) became the fifth All-American in Philadelphia University baseball program history with his selection to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Division II All-American Third Team on Tuesday.

Wells joins Fernando Garza (2016), Bob File (1998), Mike Kerrigan (1990), and Ira Prince (1990) on the Rams' All-American list.

The All-American nod caps off a senior season that had Wells earn the East Region Player of the Year honor from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the ABCA, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year award, and Division II Conference Commissioners Association first-team recognition.

In 2017, Wells set career highs in batting average (.350), hits (57), runs scored (46), home runs (14), stolen bases (6), slugging percentage (.706) and on-base percentage (.465). He led the team in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, hits, and runs scored.

He finished first in the conference in total bases (115) and slugging percentage, second in home runs and on-base percentage, third in runs scored, fourth in walks, fifth in batting average, sixth in RBI (37) and doubles (12), and seventh in hits.

Philadelphia had a 19-29 overall record in 2017 and reached the double-elimination portion of the CACC Tournament for the second year in a row.
