Baseball Hits Nine Home Runs, Splits Sunday Doubleheader with Alderson Broaddus

THOMASVILLE, N.C. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) baseball team (2-6) split a doubleheader with Alderson Broaddus on Sunday from Thomasville, N.C. to close out the team's southern trip.

GAME ONE ON SUNDAY – L, 20-12 | Box Score
Alderson Broaddus jumped out to a big lead in game one, scoring eight in the first, two each in the second and third before five in the fourth. Jefferson scored 12 runs in the final four innings but could not complete the comeback.

Brandon Quaranta went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI.

Chris Smith and Timothy Brodhag both went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI each.

GAME TWO ON SUNDAY – W, 12-0 | Box Score
Jefferson blanked Alderson Broaddus in the second game with a 12-0 shutout. Gunnar Hayes threw a complete game shutout with five strikeouts to no walks.

Brandon Quaranta hit another homer. He now has seven home runs on the season and five in his last four games.

Chris Smith, Matt McGee, Michael Taffe and Austin Torres all went deep in the win. Torres hit two homers in the win with four RBI. His fourth-inning blast came as a three-run shot.

McGee, Torres and Taffe then went back-to-back-to-back in the top of the fifth.

Jefferson Baseball returns to action for its home opener on Tuesday, March 6 against Le Moyne. The scheduled doubleheader will begin at noon from Alumni Field on campus.
