Baseball Falls at Winston-Salem State on Tuesday, Meet Again Wednesday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) baseball team (3-10) fell to Winston-Salem State on Tuesday evening in North Carolina by a final of 19-9. The two teams meet again tomorrow, Wednesday, March 14.

Timothy Brodhag had a three-hit day, going 3-for-5 with a two-run home run in the third inning.

Nick Goetz, Ryan Gonzalez, Brandon Quaranta, Chris Smith and Andres Valbuena each had two hits in the loss. Quaranta and Smith recorded doubles as the three extra-base hits in the game along with Brodhag's homer.

Winston-Salem State, playing in their 22nd game of the season with 21 of them at home, scored three runs in the first, three in the second and four in the third to take a commanding lead.

Jefferson got a pair in the second and third and one in the fifth before two in the sixth to make it 10-7, within striking range. But Winston-Salem erupted for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the victory.

Jefferson threw seven pitchers in the outing.
