LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) baseball team (8-21, 5-10 CACC) dropped a conference doubleheader on the road against Felician (15-19, 13-5 CACC) on Friday from Lyndhurst, N.J. The Rams dropped the first game, 12-1, before falling in the final at-bat of game two, 3-2.
FRIDAY GAME ONE – L, 12-1 – 9 INNINGS
Felician scored all 12 of its runs in the first five innings of the 9-inning game as the Golden Falcons tallied 14 hits in the affair. Jefferson got one run back in the ninth but struggled at the plate with just four hits while committing three errors in the field.
Fike drew a bases load walk in the ninth to put the Rams on the board.
FRIDAY GAME TWO – L, 3-2 – 7 INNINGS
A solo home run by Felician came as the only run across the first six innings of the seven-inning game two.
The Rams recorded three of their five hits in the seventh to take a dramatic 2-1 lead. Chris Smith started the inning with a double before Quaranta's single brought him around to score. With two outs, Andres Valbuena notched an RBI single to score Quaranta for the 2-1 lead. Quaranta has now scored 99 times in his career.
Patrick Hohlfeld start on the mound for the Rams, pitching into the seventh with four strikeouts.
Felician started the bottom half of the seventh with a hit by pitch. Jefferson got the lead runner on a sacrifice bunt attempt to keep the man on first with one out. An error on what could have been a game-ending double play put runners on first and second before Daniel Sabath relieved Hohlfeld for Jefferson. A four-pitch walk loaded the bases with one out. Sabath got his next batter to popup on the first pitch for the second out of the inning. But Felician's Matt Diesel singled on an 0-2 pitch to score the tying and winning runs for the Golden Falcons.
Chris Smith went 2-for 3 in the game with his seventh-inning double.
Jefferson Baseball returns to action on Saturday, April 14 with a home doubleheader against Caldwell starting at noon from Alumni Field.
