WATERBURY, Conn. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) baseball team (16-27, 13-16 CACC) dropped a pair of conference games on the road in Waterbury, Conn. to the Post Eagles (24-18, 16-10 CACC) on Saturday. Both games were close with the Eagles coming out on top 3-2 in game one and 4-2 in the game two.
SATURDAY GAME ONE – L, 3-2
Post took an early 2-0 lead after runs in the first and second, but the Rams were able to tie it up in the top of the third. With one out, Chase Fike walked and then advanced to second on a passed ball. With two outs, Chris Smith hit an RBI double to score Fike. Smith advanced to third on a wild pitch before another one brought him in to tie the game, 2-2.
Post scored again in the sixth on a two-out RBI single to go up 3-2, a lead they held on to for the win.
SUNDAY GAME TWO – L, 4-2
Runs were at a premium in game two once again with a close 4-2 score. Post scored in the first on an RBI single. Jefferson tied the game in the fourth on a bunt from Zack Agan to score Andres Valbuena.
The Rams took the lead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Chase Fike, 2-1.
Richard Joa (L, 2-2) pitched 6.0 innings with six strikeouts with just one earned run against him. The Eagles were able to get to Joa in the sixth behind two hits and three Jefferson errors, giving them the 4-2 edge.
CACC POSTSEASON UPDATES
With two losses on Sunday, Jefferson has to win its final three games to make the CACC playoffs. With 31 games played, Goldey-Beacom is 16-15. Through 29 games, Jefferson is 13-16 with three home games remaining. The Rams must sweep Bloomfield on Sunday and defeat the Lightning on Monday to make the conference postseason.
Jefferson hosts Bloomfield in a rescheduled doubleheader on Sunday, April 29 from Alumni Field at 11 a.m. before a single seven-inning home contest against Goldey-Beacom on Monday, April 30 at noon.
