PHILADELPHIA – The 2018 Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) baseball season came to an end on Monday afternoon when the Rams fell in a single, seven-inning game to the Goldey-Beacom Lightning (19-27-1, 17-15 CACC) from Alumni Field on campus by a final of 17-3.
The Lightning got off to a fast start, capitalizing on a few Jefferson miscues in the first two innings as they put up seven runs in each the first and second innings.
Senior Joseph Mangano pitched the seventh inning for the Rams and struck out the last batter he faced to end the inning in his final appearance.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, redshirt freshman Chris Smith singled to right center bring senior Brandon Quaranta to the plate for his final collegiate at bat. Quaranta doubled to left center in the final appearance as a Ram to score Smith from first. The Poughkeepsie, New York native finishes his 2018 season with a .370 batting average, .498 on-base percentage, .753 slugging percentage with 60 hits, 13 doubles, 15 home runs and 49 RBI. He finishes his career with a .318 batting average, .449 on-base percentage, .630 slugging percentage with 147 hits, 24 doubles, 38 home runs and 123 RBI. He leaves the school as the all-time career leader with 38 home runs.
Jefferson finished the season with an 18-28 overall record and 15-17 mark in conference play.
