CARY, N.C. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) baseball team (0-5) suffered a 9-5 loss to Findlay (4-3) in the Rams' opening game at the D-II Challenge vs. Cancer on Friday.
The Oilers opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first on a two-run single. Jefferson took the lead with four runs in the second. Senior Timothy Brodhag led off with a triple and came home on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Cole Kriger. Sophomores Timothy Lubrano and Efrain Santiago each drew a walk and eventually scored on a base hit by sophomore Arturo Figueroa. Figueroa touched the plate on an error.
Findlay came back to tie then regain the lead with one run in the second, third and fourth innings. The Oilers tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth and one in the seventh. Jefferson's final run came in the eighth when senior Ryan Gonzalez drove in senior Christopher Lorenzo with a single. Findlay added a final tally in the bottom of the frame. The Rams continue to make strides offensively, recording their highest run and hit totals of the season thus far.
The Rams remain in North Carolina and take on New Haven on Saturday, March 9 at 2:30 p.m.
