LITTLE FERRY, N.J. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) baseball team (14-25, 12-12 CACC) went 1-1 on the road on Saturday at CACC North Division opponent Bloomfield (12-28, 12-12 CACC). The Bears had a 9-5 victory in game one and the Rams won the second contest, 10-7.
GAME ONE – L, 9-5 (9 inn.)
Bloomfield took a 2-0 lead in the second on a two-run single. Junior Robert Wood drove in a run with a base hit up the middle in the third to make the score 2-1. The Bears increased their lead to three in the bottom half with another two-run single.
The Rams tied the game at four in the top of the fourth. Senior Christopher Lorenzo tripled in two runs and senior Andres Valbuena hit an RBI single. Bloomfield responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to regain the advantage.
The Bears tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh via a bases-loaded walk and a two-run single. Jefferson pushed across one final run in the eighth on sophomore Cole Kriger's RBI base hit.
GAME TWO – W, 10-7 (7 inn.)
The Bears struck first with two runs in the opening frame. Each team posted a run in the second and Bloomfield had a 3-1 lead. The Rams tallied three in the third to take a 4-3 advantage. Sophomores Arturo Figueroa and Efrain Santiago walked with the bases loaded and senior Timothy Brodhag had an RBI single. The Bears tied the score in the bottom half on a lead-off homer.
Jefferson went ahead 8-4 with a four-run fourth. Wood doubled in a run, Figueroa knocked in a run with a base hit to left, Kriger singled to right to score a run and senior Michael Taffe plated a run with a base knock. Bloomfield smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning to make the score 8-6.
The Bears closed the gap to one with an RBI single in the fifth. The Rams added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh on RBI singles by Santiago and Figueroa.
