PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) baseball team (18-27, 16-14 CACC) picked up a key doubleheader sweep of visiting Post (20-22, 17-14 CACC) on Saturday. The Rams won 16-4 in game one and they had a 9-6 victory in the second contest.
GAME ONE – W, 16-4 (9 inn.)
Jefferson struck first with a run in the third on junior Austin Torres's RBI single. The Eagles had a lead-off home run in the fourth to tie the game and took the lead on a wild pitch. The Rams responded with four runs in the bottom half. Sophomore Efrain Santiago smacked a two-run homer, senior Andres Valbuena singled in a run and sophomore Arturo Figueroa recorded a sacrifice fly.
Each team scored twice in the sixth. Post benefitted from an error while Jefferson scored on a wild pitch and an RBI double by senior Timothy Brodhag. The Rams added three runs in the seventh on a single by Figueroa, an error and an RBI base hit by Torres.

GAME TWO – W, 9-6 (7 inn.)
The Eagles got going first with a pair of runs in the opening inning on a double. However, the Rams answered with three runs in the bottom half. Joa sent the first pitch over the wall in right field, Torres singled in a run and Brodhag had a sac fly.
Post tied it in the second with a single before taking the lead with another base hit in the third. Jefferson had another three-run inning in the third to go ahead 6-4. Torres, Brodhag and senior Christopher Lorenzo all registered RBI singles.
A wild pitch in the fourth increased the Rams' advantage to 7-4. The Eagles got within two on a home run in the fifth. Torres gave Jefferson two big insurance runs in the sixth with his second home run of the day and team-leading 10th of the season.
Post was able to get the tying run to the plate in the seventh but sophomore Patrick Hohlfeld induced a fly out to lock down his second save of the campaign.
CACC PLAYOFF PICTURE
Jefferson remains in the fourth and final playoff spot in the South Division with two games remaining. The Rams have a three-game edge over USciences, who has four contests to play. Any combination of two Jefferson wins/USciences losses will secure the final berth for the Rams. Felician has locked up the top spot with Chestnut Hill and Wilmington (Del.) fighting for the second seed.
The Rams finish the regular season at Wilmington (Del.) on Sunday, April 28 at 12 p.m.
