CARY, N.C. – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (2-7) dropped an 8-4 decision to Fairmont State (7-7) at the DII Challenge vs. Cancer on Saturday.
The Fighting Falcons scored two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to go ahead 6-0, using an RBI triple, a passed ball, an RBI single, a double steal, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly. The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI base hit by freshman Dylan Rees.
Fairmont State tacked on two more runs in the sixth with a pair of RBI singles. Jefferson posted three runs in the bottom of the frame to close the gap to four (8-4). Sophomore Cole Kriger knocked in a run with a base hit and freshman Ryan Coyle followed with a two-run single. The Rams' rally stopped there as they recorded just one baserunner in each of the final three innings.
Jefferson finishes its weekend trip versus Franklin Pierce on Sunday, March 8 at 1:30 p.m.
