Philadelphia, PA- Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter welcomed Philadelphia University Head Men’s Basketball Coach Herb Magee to his office on Tuesday morning to personally honor him for his professional accomplishments.  The Mayor held a private session with Coach Magee, who was joined by PhilaU President Dr. Stephen Spinelli, PhilaU Special Assistant to the President John Pierantozzi’70 and PhilaU Athletic Director Tom Shirley among others.

After the private meeting, the Mayor held a press conference to publicly honor the coach who has spent 50 years at Philadelphia University.  This season Magee became the winningest NCAA coach (in NCAA wins) regardless of division after passing legendary coach Bobby Knight’s record of 902.  He currently has 905 career wins.

“I am truly honored, and hope to be back sometime soon to celebrate another national championship like we did in 1970 with a police escort to City Hall,” Magee stated.

Magee’s Rams are still playing ball, entering the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament this weekend as the #4 seed.  PhilaU’s quarterfinal game will be against #5 St. Anselm College on Saturday (3/13) at 8:30 p.m., hosted by Stonehill College in Easton, MA.
