Philadelphia, PA- Philadelphia University senior forward Ola Sasona introduced himself to the fans at Herb Magee Court on Wednesday night with a career-high 16 points along with nine boards to help the Rams (4-3, 1-0 CACC) to a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) 74-55 opening win over the visiting Goldey-Beacom College Lightning (1-4, 0-1 CACC).
"Nothing that Ola has done surprises me," said Coach Herb Magee. "He's and intense and intelligent player."
Sasona proved integral in 39 minutes for the Rams, also dishing out three assists and committing zero turnovers.
PhilaU never trailed in this one, leading by as many as nine in the first half. The Rams shot well on the night (49%) and out-rebounded GBC 41-24.
The Rams began the second period on an 8-0 run and only gained momentum from that point on. Four PhilaU starters scored in double-digits, including junior forward Corey Francisco, who helped his squad to their biggest lead of the night (22) on a layup at 10:52. He chipped in 12 points and a team-high 17 boards. PhilaU rookie guard Nick Christian added 13 points, three assists and two rebounds in the win.
GBC was led by Sam McDuffie with 22 points and six rebounds.
PhilaU plays next on the road, on Tuesday (12/7) at CACC rival Chestnut Hill at 8 p.m.
