Philadelphia University men’s basketball picked second in division in CACC preseason coaches poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Philadelphia University men's basketball team was predicted to finish second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) southern division in the conference's preseason poll that was released Monday. The poll was conducted by the CACC's 13 head men's basketball coaches.

The Rams received seven of the 13 first-place votes to earn a total of 68 points. Philadelphia was edged out for the top spot by Chestnut Hill College, which garnered 69 points behind the strength of five first-place votes.

Goldey-Beacom took the final first-place vote and wound up third with 46 points. USciences (36 points), Wilmington (Del.) (34) and Holy Family (20) were in the fourth, fifth and sixth spots, respectively.

Philadelphia is coming off of a 2010-11 season which saw the team finish with a 15-12 overall record and 10-7 in conference play. The Rams reached the CACC championship tournament for the fifth time since joining the conference in 2005-06.

The Rams return four starters from last year, including All-CACC second team guard Jim Connolly and honorable mention selections center Temi Adebayo and Corey Francisco.

Connolly paced the conference in free-throw percentage (.896) and three-point field-goals made per-game (2.96). He was also sixth in scoring (17.0 ppg). Adebayo was the conference leader in blocks (4.21) and field-goal percentage (.576) and 10th in rebounds per game (rpg) (6.8). Francisco was 15th in the CACC in scoring (14.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.4 rpg).

In the northern division, defending CACC champion and NCAA Division II Elite Eight participant Bloomfield was picked number one with nine first-place votes and 85 points. Dominican (N.Y.) totaled 71 points and earned three first-place votes. Post was third with one first-place vote and a total of 70 points. Felician (46 points), Caldwell (41), Concordia (N.Y.) (37) and Nyack (16) rounded out the poll.

Philadelphia opens the 2011-12 season with a road contest at Kutztown University Saturday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m.
