Rams run away from Assumption, 77-62

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia University men's basketball team closed out the game's final 4:05 with an 18-5 run on its way to a 77-62 victory over visiting Assumption College in the East Region Classic Thursday afternoon at the Gallagher Center.

During the final push the Rams went 10-of-12 at the free throw line. The team shot 85.2 percent (23-of-27) for the game. Guard Nick Christian (nine points) and center Temi Adebayo (19 points, six rebounds, three blocks) both led the Philadelphia (6-4) charge with five points a piece.

Guard Nick Schlitzer was the Rams' top scorer with 21 points on 6-13 shooting from the field and 6-of-6 at the line. Guard Jim Connolly went a perfect 9-of-9 from the stripe and finished with 19 points.

The Greyhounds' (5-5) Kevin Donahue led everyone with a game-high 23 points. Tim Beinert was also in double-figures for Assumption with 14 points.

Philadelphia connected on 44.4 percent (24-of-54) of its shots, while Assumption shot 42.6 percent (23-of-54). The Greyhounds were a 57.1 percent (8-of-14) free throw shooting team. Assumption owned a 39-28 rebounding advantage, including a 12-5 offensive edge.

The Rams broke open a tight game with an 11-2 run to open up a 50-37 lead with 11:51 remaining. Assumption, led by Ronson Quick's eight points, countered with a 13-2 spurt that closed the gap to 59-57.

In the first half, the teams found themselves deadlocked five times. The final tie of the half came when Donahue knocked down a trey with 42 seconds left to make the score 27-27, which would end up being the halftime score.
