Rams take down Post 74-52 to advance in the CACC Tournament

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Guard Nick Christian scored 12 of his game-high 19 points in the second half to lead the Philadelphia University men's basketball team to a 74-52 victory over Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament quarterfinal Saturday night in the Gallagher Center.

Philadelphia, the second seed in the south, improves to 19-8 overall and will take on Bloomfield, the northern division champion, in the semifinal round on Friday, March 2 at Caldwell College. Bloomfield squeaked past Holy Family in its quarterfinal match-up, 66-64. Game time on Friday is 2 p.m. In the first meeting on Jan. 21, guard Nick Schlitzer scored 25 points as the Rams defeated the Deacons 85-66 in Philadelphia.

In tonight's contest Schlitzer recorded his second double-double of the season by netting 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Center Temi Adebayo added 12 points and nine boards.

The Eagles (13-15) received 12 points from Saurnas Jackson.

Philadelphia shot 56.9 percent (29-of-51) overall, while holding Post to 33.3 percent (19-of-57). The Rams also dominated the glass by a 41-23 margin.

Philadelphia went on an 8-0 run, which included six points from Adebayo, to take a 21-14 lead with 4:33 left in the opening half and never looked back. The lead grew to 10 with 1:56 still on the clock when Schlitzer hit a lay-up to make the score, 30-20. The Ram advantage at the intermission was 32-24.

The Rams kept the throttle down in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 17-6 in the first 9:22 to extend the gap to 49-30. Christian was responsible for 10 of the 17 points. Forward Tyree Harris, who scored a career-high eight points, pushed the lead to a game-high 24 points (58-34) by hitting a free throw with 7:56 left to play.
