Rams move up to eighth in NCAA Division II East Region Rankings

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia University men's basketball team jumped up two spots to eighth in the latest NCAA Division II East Region Rankings that were released Wednesday.

Philadelphia has an overall and in-region record of 19-8. The Rams moved up from tenth after defeating Holy Family and Post last week. The victory over Post came in the opening round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament.

Bloomfield, Philadelphia's opponent in the CACC Tournament semifinal on Friday, March 2 at Caldwell College at noon, is seventh in the region rankings with and overall mark of 22-7 and a region record of 21-6. In the regular season the Rams defeated the Deacons, 85-66, on Jan. 21 in the Gallagher Center.

The top four teams in this week's region rankings are the top four seeds from the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10). Franklin Pierce (21-6 overall, 21-6 in-region) is the top team in the rankings for the third consecutive week. Adelphi (20-7, 20-7), Stonehill (19-8, 19-8) and UMass-Lowell (18-9, 18-9) are in the next three positions.

Fifth belongs to C.W. Post (21-5, 21-5), while District of Columbia (21-3, 19-3) holds down sixth. The Pioneers and Firebirds are the first and second seeds, respectively, in the East Coast Conference (ECC) Tournament.

Bentley (15-12, 15-12) and Merrimack (15-12, 15-12) are ninth and 10th, respectively. Bentley was eliminated in the first round and Merrimack was knocked out in the quarterfinal round of the NE-10 Tournament.

The champions of the CACC, NE-10, and ECC receive an automatic bid into the NCAA East Region Tournament. The other five spots will be filled by at-large teams. The field will be announced on Sunday, March 4.
