Rams place three on the All-CACC men’s basketball team; Gibbs named rookie of the year

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Philadelphia University senior guard Jim Connolly (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area), freshman forward Peter Alexis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer), and freshman guard Andre Gibbs (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) were named to the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball team on Thursday. Gibbs also was selected as the conference's rookie of the year.

Gibbs—an all-CACC honorable mention pick—is Philadelphia's second CACC rookie of the year since joining the conference in 2005. Mike Dunn was the Rams' first CACC rookie of the year in 2006.

During the regular season, Gibbs was third on the team in scoring (14.0 ppg) while leading the team in assists (80) and minutes per game (38.7). He also racked up 24 steals. In the CACC, Gibbs ranked second in minutes per game, third in free throw percentage (85.1), 11th in assists, 13th in made three pointers (45), and 15th in three-point percentage (37.8).

Connolly is a three-time member of the all-conference team after being named to the second team this season. He is second on the team with 14.4 ppg and 36.9 minutes per game. Connolly—a first team selection as a junior and a second team pick as a sophomore—led the Rams with 65 three-pointers and an 85.3 free throw percentage. He was second in the CACC in free throw percentage, fifth in made three pointers, sixth in minutes per game and 19th in scoring.

In his career, Connolly has scored 1,501 points to place him 21st on Philadelphia University's all-time scoring list, is third in school history with 277 made three-pointers.

A third-team selection, Alexis is Philadelphia's leader in scoring (15.0 ppg), rebounding (8.8 per game), field goal percentage (62.8 percent), and blocks (52). The Penn State transfer leads the CACC in field goal percentage, second in blocks, seventh in rebounds and 16th in scoring. Alexis is 10th in Division II in field goal percentage and 22nd with 10 double-doubles.

The Rams went 17-9 and 12-5 in the CACC during the 2012-13 season. Philadelphia welcomes Post to the Gallagher Center for the opening round of the CACC Championship Tournament on Saturday, March 2 at 2 p.m.
