Men's basketball defeats Post 81-73; Extends winning streak to seven

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Philadelphia University men's basketball team shot a season-best 59.6 percent in an 81-73 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Post Saturday afternoon in the Drubner Center.

Philadelphia increases its season-best winning streak to seven, while improving to 18-5 overall and 12-2 in the CACC. Post is now 8-13 overall, 8-6 in conference play.

Junior guard Nick Schlitzer (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) and sophomore forward Peter Alexis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) each netted 19 points in the victory. Alexis added 11 rebounds to complete his second straight game with a double-double, 11th overall this season.

Sophomore guard Andre Gibbs (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) and sophomore forward Derek Johnson (Conshohocken, Pa./Atlantic Christian) contributed 18 points a piece.

An 8-2 Post run, capped off by a Zach Krischer jumper with 10:09 to play, gave the Eagles a 57-53 lead. The Rams countered with 11 of the game's next 12 points, coming from five different players, to grab a 64-58 advantage with 5:55 left.

Post got within one point (66-65) on a pair of Derrick Strong free throws at the 3:21 mark.  On Philadelphia's next trip down the floor, Gibbs buried a 3-point bucket to push the advantage back up to four (69-65).

After Post closed the gap to 75-73 on a Stephen Perry 3-pointer, Philadelphia scored the final six points of the game to seal the win.

The score was tied six times and the team's swapped the lead nine times during a very tight opening 20 minutes. Philadelphia owned a half-high five-point lead on three separate occasions.

Devin Willis and Perry were Post's leading scorers with 15 points each. Strong added 13 points, while Josh Tatum contributed 12 points.

Philadelphia won the rebounding battle 37-30.

Philadelphia heads to Chestnut Hill for a CACC contest on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 8 p.m.
