PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's basketball team was tabbed eighth in Division II in the Sporting News 2014-15 Small College Report that was released on Friday. The publication also named junior forward Peter Alexis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) to the Preseason All-America second team.
Last season, Philadelphia went 25-7, won their third Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) championship, and reached the NCAA Tournament. The Rams return four starters from last year's team, including three All-CACC selections. Senior guard Nick Schlitzer (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville), an All-CACC second team pick, recorded 15.3 points per game and shot 43.1 percent from 3-point range. An All-CACC third team selection, junior forward Derek Johnson (Conshohocken, Pa./Atlantic Christian) poured in 15.5 points per game and grabbed 6.2 rebounds per game. Alexis was an All-CACC first team selection.
Along with being named to the All-CACC first team, Alexis earned Daktronics All-East Region first team, National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II Men's Basketball All-District second team, and City of Basketball Love Division II All-Area first team recognition. He was third in the CACC in rebounding (9.5 per game) and fifth in scoring (18.2 points per game) and blocks (57).
Alexis also had a successful year in the classroom and was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Basketball Team, Capital One Division II Academic All-District 1 Men's Basketball Team, and the 2013-14 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Winter All-Academic Team.
Philadelphia opens the 2014-15 season with an exhibition contest at James Madison University on Sunday, Nov. 2.
