AUSTIN, TEXAS – Philadelphia University junior forward Peter Alexis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) was named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II men's basketball third team on Wednesday. The teams were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
A psychology major with a 3.64 grade point average, Alexis is the University's sixth Capital One Academic All-American and the first men's basketball player since Al Angelos was voted onto the third team in 1980.
Alexis is a two-time Capital One Division II Academic All-District 1 Team selection, and was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Winter All-Academic Team and Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Basketball Team last year.
This season, he has been tabbed as the CACC defensive player of the week a conference-best three times (Dec. 1, Jan. 5, Feb. 16) and named the CACC player of the week on Jan. 19.
He is leading the CACC in blocks (70), ranked second in field goal percentage (.600), third in rebounds per game (9.8), and ninth in scoring (15.2 points per game). In Division II, Alexis sits 10th in double-doubles (14), 11th in blocks, and 16th in rebounding.
Philadelphia went 21-7 overall, 15-4 in the CACC, during the season. The Rams earned the three seed southern division and head to Post for a CACC Tournament quarterfinal on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.
