Men’s basketball falls to USciences

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's basketball team was defeated by the University of the Sciences 72-63 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Tuesday night in Bobby Morgan Arena.

Philadelphia (18-6, 11-4 CACC) had three players score in double figures, led by Peter Alexis' (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting. TJ Huggins (Alexandria, Va./TC Williams) shot 7-of-12 from the field to finish up with 19 points. Brendan Kilpatrick (Norristown, Pa./Malvern Prep) added 10 points.

The opening half belonged to the Devils (13-10, 10-6 CACC) as they shot 46.2 percent (12-26) to lead 31-19 at the break. Led by five points from T-John Casiello, USciences rattled off 11 straight points to take a 22-8 lead midway through the half. After a Casiello layup put the Devils up by 16, Alexis made a layup and two free throws to bring the Rams within 12 (29-17).

Philadelphia controlled the play at the start of the second half, outscoring USciences 21-3 to take a 40-34 lead on an Alexis layup with 9:35 left. Huggins was responsible for the first six points, while Kilpatrick and Alexis scored five each.

The Devils answered back with 15 of the next 18 points, five from Will Gregorits, to reclaim a seven-point lead 49-42. Cory Dean (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) knocked a 3-poitner with 4:42 to play to cut the Philadelphia deficit to just two (49-47).

It would be as close as the Rams would get as the Devils as went on a 12-5 run to widen the gap to nine.

Kerr paced the USciences offense with 20 points. Sho Da-Silva added 19 points, while Gregorits posted 13 points. Casiello finished up with 12 points.

The Rams shot 46.0 percent from the field, 55.2 percent in the second half. USciences ended up hitting 45.5 percent of its attempts.

Philadelphia returns to the Gallagher Center to face Nyack in a CACC contest on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m.
