NEW HAVENN, Conn. – Peter Alexis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) and Gemil Holbrook (Darby, Pa./Roman Catholic) both recorded a career high in scoring in the opening round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament. The conference office recognized Alexis and Holbrook for their effort, naming them the co-player and rookie of the week, respectively, on Monday.
In the opening round 86-83 victory over Concordia (N.Y.) on Feb. 27, Alexis dominated the paint, shooting 17-of-22 from the floor to finish with 35 points, tying his career high. He also recorded seven rebounds, five blocked shots, two steals, and one assist. A six time player of the week, Alexis—who shares this week's honor with Bloomfield's Claude Blue—opened the week with 14 points and 13 rebounds in 74-70 loss to Chestnut Hill in the regular season finale on Feb. 23.
Holbrook had the hot-hand from the perimeter against the Clippers as he connected on 8 of his 11 3-point attempts on his way to a career-high 28 points. He shot 10-of-16 overall and grabbed a pair of rebounds.
The CACC Player of the Year, Alexis is posting 19.9 points per game on 62.9 percent shooting, 9.1 rebounds per game, and 71 blocks in 39.2 minutes per game. He leads the CACC in shooting, blocks, and double-doubles (15); and is second in rebounding and minutes per game; and third in scoring.
Alexis sits eighth in Division II in shooting, 15th in double-doubles, and 17th in blocks per game (2.45).
Holbrook—a spring semester transfer from Rider University—has contributed 6.4 points and 1.5 rebounds in 11 games. He is shooting 51.4 percent from 3-point range and is third on the team with 18 made 3-pointers.
Philadelphia (22-7), the back-to-back CACC champion, is in the semifinal round of the CACC Tournament where the team will face northern division champ Bloomfield on Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m. at Dominican (N.Y.) College.
