Alexis named to CoSIDA Academic All-America first team

PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia University men's basketball forward Peter Alexis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) became the University's first two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American on Wednesday with his selection to the Academic All-America Division II Men's Basketball first team.

An Academic All-America third-team selection a season ago, Alexis is the second student-athlete in school history to be named to the first team, joining former women's lacrosse player Libby Nichols who was tabbed Academic All-American At-Large first team in 2014.

Alexis has a perfect 4.00 grade-point average after the fall semester in the community and trauma counseling graduate program. He completed his undergraduate degree in psychology last spring with a 3.61 GPA.

In addition to his Academic All-America accolades, Alexis had earned the place on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Winter All-Academic Team and the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Basketball Team each of the last two years.

Tabbed the 2015-16 CACC Player of the Year, Alexis has had a stellar year through 29 games, averaging 19.9 points—on 62.9 percent shooting—and 9.1 rebounds in 39.2 minutes per game. He has also blocked 71 shots, seven shy of his career high.

Alexis—a four-time All-CACC selection after being selected to the first team last month—leads the conference in shooting, blocks, and double-doubles (15); is second in rebounding and minutes per game and third in scoring.

In Division II, Alexis is ranked eighth in shooting, 15th in double-doubles, and 17th in blocks per game (2.45).

He became the second player in program history to record 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds, scoring point number 2,000 on Feb. 18 at Georgian Court. Alexis' 1,000th career rebound came on Jan. 9 against Felician.

Alexis is one of eight Philadelphia University student-athletes to be named an Academic All-American, and the first basketball player since Al Angelos in 1980.
