PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's basketball team will be in the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament field after being award the No. 7 seed from the selection committee Sunday night. The Rams will face No. 2 seed St. Anselm on Saturday, March 12 in Holy Family University's Campus Center.
Game time and ticket information will be made available later in the week.
Philadelphia (23-8) will make its 35th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the 29th under Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame head coach Herb Magee. The Rams trail only Kentucky Wesleyan for the most NCAA Tournament appearances in Division II history. Kentucky Wesleyan has 38 tournament appearances, including this year.
The Rams are 33-38 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. Philadelphia won the 1970 national championship and has been to five Elite Eights. Last season, the Rams lost to host American International, 58-53, in round one.
Philadelphia and St. Anselm met earlier this season, with the Hawks pulling out a 77-73 overtime victory on New Year's Eve in Manchester, N.H.
The first round winner will take on either No. 3 Southern Connecticut or No. 6 St. Thomas Aquinas in the second round on Sunday.
The other side of the bracket features No. 1 seed and host Holy Family against No. 8 Southern New Hampshire and No. 4 Bentley facing off with No. 5 Stonehill.
