Peter Alexis named 2015-16 D2CCA East Region Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

CLEVELAND – Former Philadelphia University men's basketball forward Peter Alexis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) was named the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) 2015-16 East Region Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the organization Thursday. The voting was done by the 24 NCAA Division II conference commissioners.

Alexis—Philadelphia University's first D2CCA East Region Scholar-Athlete of the Year—had a tremendous senior campaign, both on the court and in the classroom, which earned him numerous accolades.

The dominating force in the middle for the Rams' starting lineup throughout the 2015-16 season, Alexis was selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year, National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II All-East District first team, and D2CCA All-East Region Men's Basketball first team.

He led the CACC in total blocks (78), made field goals (251), field goal shooting (61.5 percent), and double-doubles (15). Alexis ranked second in the CACC in total rebounds (293), total points (619), rebounds per game (9.2), minutes per game (39:07), and third in points per game (19.3).

Alexis became the second player in Philadelphia University history to join the 2,000-point/1,000-rebound club when he scored his 2,000th-career point in a road win at Georgian Court on Feb. 18, 2016. His 1,000th-career rebound came during a home triumph against Felician on Jan. 9, 2016.

In March, Alexis played in the 2016 Reese's Division II College All-Star Game, and scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 21 minutes of play.

The 2015-16 CACC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Alexis earned his M.S. in Community and Trauma Counseling earlier this year with a 3.75 GPA.  Alexis' academic achievement landed him on the 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division II Men's Basketball first team, making him the school's first two-time Academic All-American and second first team selection. He was named as the 2015-16 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Basketball Performer of the Year and earned a Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.

In his career at Philadelphia University, Alexis racked up 2,116 points, 1,162 rebounds, and 268 blocked shots, and leaves the University ranked second in blocks, third in rebounds, and fourth in scoring. He was a four-time All-CACC selection and was named to the Daktronics All-East Region first team, NABC Division II Men's Basketball All-District second team as a sophomore. Alexis was tabbed for the CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 Team and the CACC Winter All-Academic Team three times.
