DeCicco nets 30 in men’s basketball’s 90-51 win over Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA – Guard Jordan DeCicco (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) poured in a game- and career-high 30 points as the Philadelphia University men's basketball team knocked off Chestnut Hill 90-51 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) showdown Saturday afternoon in Sorgenti Arena.

DeCicco surpassed his old career-high of 25 points, which came just four days ago in an 82-68 win over Georgian Court, by shooting 11-of-17 from the field overall and 6-of-10 from 3-point range. The 30 points are the most in a game by a Ram this season.

Kaison Randolph (Trenton, N.J./Pennington Prep) shot 8-of-15, 5-of-8 from behind the arc, to contribute 22 points. Randolph—who had the previous high for points in a game with a 29-point effort on Nov. 29 at Kutztown—also had eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Andre Gibbs (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) contributed 15 points.

Philadelphia (7-3, 4-1 CACC)—a winner in three of its last four and snapped a three-game road losing streak—used a great all-around first-half performance, and a 29-5 run to open the game, to lead 45-19 at the half. The Rams shot 48.4 percent (15-of-31) from the field and hit eight of their 16 3-point attempts, and held the Griffins to 27.3 percent (6-of-22) shooting during the half.

The 19 points are tied for the fewest allowed by the Rams in a half this season. Philadelphia surrendered just 19 points in the opening half to the University of the Sciences in an 87-40 win on Dec. 1.

In the 29-5 run, Randolph shot 5-for-7 from the floor to record 13 points, while DeCicco knocked down a pair of threes and a layup to add eight points. The Rams made 10 of their 14 shot attempts while forcing the Griffins to shoot just 2-of-10 and commit five turnovers.

The margin grew to a half-high 26 points when Kylan Guerra (White Plains, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) beat the buzzer with a 3-pointer to end the first half.

The Rams took a 41-point lead on a pair of DeCicco free throws with 4:40 left in the contest to make the score 84-43.

Philadelphia finished the game shooting 52.6 percent (30-of-57) from the field, 51.9 percent (14-of-27) from behind the 3-point arc. The 14 3-pointers are a season high. Chestnut Hill connected on 27.8 percent (15-of-54) of its shots.

Bryant Quill paced Chestnut Hill (4-5, 1-2 CACC) in scoring with 14 points in a reserve role.

Philadelphia heads to the College of Saint Rose for the East Region Challenge on Dec. 17-18. The Rams will face the host Golden Knights on Dec. 17 at 3 p.m.
