Men’s Basketball Dominates Dominican on the Road, 89-77

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's basketball team (14-9, 9-3 CACC) used a hot-shooting afternoon to defeat the Dominican Chargers (14-6, 8-3 CACC) in a CACC matchup on Saturday by a final of 89-77.

The Rams shot 58.8% in the victory as a team, their third-highest shooting percentage on the season. It also marked the second-straight contest that all five Rams' starters finished in double figures.

Sophomore Kylan Guerra tied a season high with 23 points behind 6-of-10 shooting including 2-of-3 from deep. The sophomore also went 9-of-10 from the line and dished out four assists with one steal.

Senior Yevgen Sakhniuk also scored 23 points, going 10-of-12 from the floor with five rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block. It marked the third time this season that Sakhniuk made at least 10 field goals.

Senior Kaison Randolph flirted with a triple-double as he finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists to go along with one steal and one block.

Freshman Alexander Gorton scored 15 points with four rebounds while sophomore Josh Bradanese also notched 14 points with four three-pointers and seven rebounds.

Jefferson trailed early in the affair, keeping close with the Chargers before tying it up 23-23 midway through the first. From there, the Rams slowly stretched their lead, taking a 42-35 advantage into halftime after getting 14 points from Sakhniuk. As a team, Jefferson went 15-of-28 from the field and 9-of-10 from the line.

A balanced effort in the second half helped Jefferson take their lead up to 10 in the first couple minutes of action, 58-48. The Rams started the half 5-of-5 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Jefferson went 10-of-18 from the field for the rest of the game to finish the second half with a clip of 65.2% as a squad. Guerra scored 14 points in the final 20 minutes while he, Sakhiuk and Bradanese went a combined 11-of-14 in the second half.

The Rams took their edge all the way up to 17 when they led 82-65 over the Chargers with 4:23 remaining before winning by the 89-77 final.

Jefferson went 8-of-19 from deep and 21-of-25 from the line, marking their second-straight game going 21-of-25 from the free-throw line (W, 78-75 at Chestnut Hill on Wednesday) and their fifth with at least 20 made free throws.

Jefferson Men's Basketball returns home to host Georgian Court on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 8 p.m. to close out the month.
