Magee Makes Mark on New Jefferson Basketball Court

PHILADELPHIA – Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's basketball coach Herb Magee signed center court of Herb Magee Court in the Gallagher Center on Wednesday morning. Named after the coaching legend, Herb Magee Court is home to the Jefferson men's and women's basketball teams as well as the volleyball squad.

The Gallagher Athletic, Recreation and Convocation Center opened its door in August 2006. The court was named after Magee during the 2006-07 school year.

Magee will enter his 52nd year as the head coach of the Rams in 2018-19 and his 60th overall at the school, having graduated in 1963. Over his first 51 years as the team's head coach, Magee has amassed 1,074 career victories and led the men to 30 NCAA Tournament appearances. In his third year as head coach, Magee and the Rams won the 1969-70 national championship.

Magee was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011. Magee is also enshrined in the West Catholic High School Hall of Fame, Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame (1979), Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame (1979), Jefferson Athletics Hall of Fame (1984), Philadelphia Area Small College Basketball Hall of Fame (2002) and the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame (2008).

Philadelphia University integrated with Thomas Jefferson University ahead of the 2017-18 school year to create Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University). The national comprehensive university has 7,800 students in more than 160 undergraduate and graduate professional programs in nine college and three schools. Jefferson has campuses in Center City, East Falls, Montgomery County and Bucks County, Pa. and Atlantic County, N.J.
