AVONDALE, Pa. – Nick Nguyen (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) recorded a top-20 finish to lead the Philadelphia University golf team to a 10th-place finish in the Griffin Invitational at the par-70 Inniscrone Golf Club on Tuesday.
The Rams had a team score of 343 (+63) in their first event away from The ACE Club this season. Host Chestnut Hill won the event with a score of 298 (+18).
Nguyen fired off a round of 81 (+11) to end the day in tie for 20th-place in the 66-player event.
Austin Regan (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) carded an 86 (+16) to finish in a four-way tie for 37th place. Peter Mahal (Great Meadows, N.J./Hackettstown) was a shot back of Regan with an 87 (+17) to end his round in a deadlock for 41st. Thomas Lucci (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) and Daniel Carpenter (Elkton, Md./Bohemia Manor) both shot an 89 (+19) to finish tied for 44th.
The Griffins' Sam Riemer and Matthew Balcer tied for first place with rounds of even par 70.
Philadelphia goes back to The ACE Club for a tri-match against Penn State-Abington/Chestnut Hill on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 12:30 p.m.
