Men’s golf sits eighth after day one of Charger Challenge

SUFFERN, N.Y. – Led by a solid performance by Nicholas Nguyen (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin), the Philadelphia University men's golf team is sitting eighth after the first day of action at the Charger Challenge, hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College at the Spook Rock Golf Course.

Nguyen had a round of 79 (+7) to finish the opening round in a three-way tie for 14th place in the 50-player field.

Peter Mahal (Great Meadows, N.J./Hackettstown) completed his first day with a score of 85 (+13) to end up in a three-way deadlock for the 28th position. Kyle Zeller (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) was two strokes behind Mahal with an 87 (+15) and is currently sitting in a tie for 33rd with three other players.

Jayson Gonzalez-Adams (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Colegio Rosa-Bell) is tied for 43rd place as he carded a 90 (+18), while Thomas Lucci (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) is in 50th with an opening round score of 94 (+22).

Philadelphia had a combined team score of 341 (+53).

Concordia is the leader after day one with a score of 312 (+24). Goldey-Beacom is in second place with a 315 (+27), while Nyack is a shot back in third with a 316 (+28).

Post University's Fredrick Rolive shot a one-under par 71 to lead the field.

Philadelphia will start the second and final day of the event at 12:27 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1.
