Men's golf competes in the Philadelphia University Fall Invitational

LAFAYTETTE HILL, Pa. – The Philadelphia University men's golf team hosted the 6th Annual Philadelphia University Fall Invitational Tuesday afternoon at The ACE Club.

The Rams had 10 competitors that were split into two teams of five.

The "A" squad of Nicholas Nguyen (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin), Thomas Lucci (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls), Peter Mahal (Great Meadows, N.J./Hackettstown), Jayson Gonzalez-Adams (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Colegio Rosa-Bell), and Kyle Zeller (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) came in fifth in the nine-team field with a score of 318 (+30).

The "B" squad that was made up of Austin Regan (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic), Jacob Williams (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley), Michael Grosso (Aston, Pa./Monsignor Bonner), Benjamin Butcher (Hershey, Pa./Home Schooled), and John Cecil (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) had a score of 346 (+ 58) to finish in seventh.

Mahal led the Rams in Tuesday's event as he shot a 77 (+5), matching his best score of the season to finish 10th out of 45 golfers. Gonzalez-Adams put together his lower round of the season with a 78 (+6) to end the day in a deadlock for 16th.

Nguyen turned in a card of 81 (+9) for a 23rd-place finish. Lucci had an 82 (+10) to finish in a tie for 25th, while Grosso—competing for the first time this season—led the B squad with a round of 83 (+11) and ended up tied for 30th.

Zeller put together his best round of the fall as he completed his round with the 32nd place score of 84 (+12). Williams and Regan were separated by one stroke as Williams had the 34th-place score of 86 (+14) and Regan came in 35th with a round of 87 (+15).

Cecil and Butcher both competed for the first time this season. Cecil had a round of 90 (+18) for a 38th-place finish. Butcher finished his round with a score of 97 (+25) for a 42nd-place finish.

Dominican (N.Y.) College won the team title with a team score of 302 (+14). Nyack College's Tom Holmes was the individual winner as he had a round of 71 (-1).

Philadelphia returns to action with a dual match against the University of the Sciences on Monday, Oct. 10 at the ACE Club at 1:30 p.m.
