Men's golf takes second in Wilmington University Tri-Match

MIDDLETOWN, Del. – The Philadelphia University golf team posted a second-place finish in the Wilmington University tri-match against Nyack College and the host Wildcats Tuesday afternoon at the par-71 Back Creek Golf Club.

Led by an 11th-place finish by Peter Mahal, the Rams had a combined team score of 337 (+53). Philadelphia finished 12 strokes ahead of third-place Nyack (349, +65). Wilmington won the tri-match with a score of 301 (+17).

After shooting 83 in a home tri-match at the ACE Club on Monday, Mahal lowered his score by four strokes in Tuesday's match as he completed the round with a score of 79 (+8). The 79 is Mahal's fourth round in the 70s this season.

Jayson Gonzalez-Adams, Nicholas Nguyen, Kyle Zeller, and Austin Regan occupied positions 14 through 17, respectively. Gonzalez-Adams had a round of 81 (+10), his fifth-lowest score of the year, to take 14th place. Nguyen finished in 15th after carding an 87 (+16). Zeller edged out Regan by one shot to claim 16th and the final spot for the Rams' team score with a 90 (+19). Regan ended his day by shooting 91 (+20).

Wilmington's Sam Clark shot a one-under par 70 to win the individual title.

Philadelphia will host the University of the Sciences and Dominican (N.Y.) College on Monday, April 17 in its final tune up for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship.
