Men's soccer tabbed fourth in CACC preseason coaches poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Philadelphia University men's soccer team was selected fourth in the 2016 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) preseason coaches poll that was released by the conference office Monday.

Philadelphia—who had 125 points and one of the 13 available first-place votes in the poll—returns 15 players from the 2015 squad that went 8-5-5 overall and qualified for the CACC Tournament as the five seed with a 6-4-2 conference mark. The Rams were the top defensive team in the conference, leading the way with a 0.87 goals against average and recording seven shutouts, which ranked second.

Sophomore forward Jason Rocha (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland)—a two-time CACC rookie of the week in 2015—is Philadelphia's top returning goal scorer with four goals, including two match winners, one year ago. Senior midfielder Seiji Rose (Toulouse, France/Lycee Climatique et Sportif Pierrer de Coubertin) was one of the top play makers in the conference last season, racking up seven assists to finish third in the CACC.

In his first season as the starting goalkeeper, junior Ben Sauer (Bel Air, Md./Perry Hall Christian) went 8-4-5 with a 0.81 goals against average, 44 saves, and a .746 save percentage. He was the CACC leader in goals against average, second in shutouts (7), and fourth in victories.

Philadelphia has brought in 14 newcomers to fill out this year's team.

Leading the poll was the 2015 regular season champion Wilmington (Del.) with 160 points and eight first-place votes. Post had 146 points and one first-place vote to occupy the second position. Defending CACC Tournament champion Bloomfield earned 131 points and a pair of first-place votes to claim third.

Dominican (N.Y.) (117 points), Concordia (N.Y.) (96), Chestnut Hill (92), and Caldwell (73) sit fourth through eighth, respectively. The final five spots in the poll belong to Georgian Court (63), Nyack (62), Goldey-Beacom (53), Holy Family (45), and Felician (19). Holy Family garnered the final first-place vote.

Philadelphia opens the 2016 season on Thursday, Sept. 1 with a non-conference tilt at West Chester at 4 p.m.
