Men’s soccer falls in overtime to No. 8 LIU Post, 2-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Philadelphia University men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 overtime defeat to No. 8 LIU Post, 2-1, in a non-conference clash Tuesday afternoon.

Charlie Ledula scored the match-winning goal for LIU Post (7-0-0) at the 94:43 mark when he headed a Nico Kjaer Andersen crossing pass from the right side of the penalty area into the right side of the net.

Philadelphia (1-4-1) took a 1-0 lead 19:18 into the contest when Hunter Dyson (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) crossed a ball into the penalty area and was deflected into the LIU Post net by a Pioneer defender. At the time of the own goal, the Rams did not register a shot attempt.

Even though the Rams were outshot 12-1 in the opening 45 minutes, Philadelphia held the 1-0 lead at halftime.

The score remained 1-0 until Oliver Hollingsaeter got his head to an Andersen pass at 69:12 to even the score.

Philadelphia keeper Eric Gutierrez (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman) recorded four saves, while LIU Post's Brian McPartland stopped three shots.

The Pioneers outshot the Rams 25-5.

Philadelphia returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play when it visits Holy Family on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 4 p.m.
