DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Philadelphia University men's soccer team was defeated by host Mercy College 1-0 in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon on a goal scored in the dying seconds of the first half.

The Mavericks' (7-3-1) Lucca Lacerda recorded the match's only goal with four seconds remaining in the opening half. Lacerda received a crossing pass from Donovan Cesar and unleashed a shot that found the back of the net for his third goal of the year.

After taking four shots in the first half, Philadelphia (2-7-2) stepped up its offense in the second half as the Rams took six shots and five corner kicks. The Rams put two of those six shots on target, one from Myles-Jordan Senior-Campbell (London, England/John Lyon) at 72:19 and the other from Jason Rocha (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) at 81:30, but both were stopped by the Mavericks' Kwantarian Van der Lara.

Eric Gutierrez (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman) played well in net for Philadelphia, stopped a career-high seven shots. Van der Lara finished with five saves for Mercy.

Mercy owned a 20-10 shot advantage, while Philadelphia had the edge in corner kicks 6-3.
