Jean-Baptiste, Gutierrez earn CACC weekly recognition

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Valdo Jean-Baptiste (Guadeloupe, France/Daylight/Twilight) and Eric Gutierrez (Croydon, Pa./Harry S. Truman) each played a big role in helping the Philadelphia University men's soccer team earn two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victories last week. On Monday, Jean-Baptiste was named the CACC rookie of the week and Gutierrez was selected as a CACC co-defensive player of the week.

Playing in just his second game of the 2016 season, Jean-Baptiste scored his first collegiate goal in the 96th minute to give the Rams a 1-0 overtime road victory over Goldey-Beacom on Oct. 11.

Gutierrez--who shares the honor with Georgian Court's Sebastian Mikuska--recorded the first two shutouts of his collegiate career as he made five saves in 180 minutes of action. In the win over Goldey-Beacom, Gutierrez was credited with three saves. He came back with a two-save performance in Philadelphia's 1-0 win over Post on Oct. 15.

In 13 matches, Gutierrez has four victories, a 1.38 goals against average, 46 saves, and a .708 save percentage. He is fourth in the conference in goals against average and seventh in saves.

Philadelphia (4-8-2, 3-5-1 CACC) hosts Wilmington (Del.) in a CACC match on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.
