Men’s Soccer Holds Off Caldwell to Advance to CACC Semifinals, 1-0

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 1-seeded Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's soccer team (14-4-1) held off the No. 8-seeded Caldwell Cougars (6-10-3) on Monday afternoon from Ravenhill Field in a CACC Quarterfinals matchup by a final of 1-0.

The Rams scored the lone goal of the afternoon in the 13th minute when CACC Player of the Year Seiji Rose played one of Jefferson's five corners on the day to CACC Defensive Player of the Year Pedro Neto inside the box. Neto headed the ball past the Caldwell keeper to give the Rams the early advantage, 1-0.

It came as Neto's fifth game-winning goal on the campaign.

Though Jefferson controlled possession throughout the first half and most of the match, the shots were even 6-6 at half with a 12-10 Caldwell edge after 90 minutes.

Senior keeper Ben Sauer recorded his career-high eighth shutout of the season and the 15th of his career in the victory. The Bel Air, Maryland native made six saves.

The No. 1-seeded Rams will now take on the No. 4-seeded Bloomfield Bears on Friday, Nov. 3 in Lakewood, N.J at Georgian Court University, the site of the 2017 CACC Soccer Championships for both the men and the women.

It is the Rams' first trip back the CACC Semifinals since 2014 when the squad last made the NCAA Tournament. In both 2015 and 2016, the Rams saw their season end in the conference quarterfinals.
