BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's soccer team (1-2-0) earned a 3-0 shutout road win over the No. 23 Bloomsburg Huskies (2-1-0) on Wednesday evening from Steph Pettit Stadium in Bloomsburg, Pa. Senior Jason Rocha led the Rams with two goals in the nonconference victory while freshman goalkeeper Andrew Menjivar made three stops in his first collegiate win and shutout.
Rocha notched his first goal of the night and the season in the 36th minute when he converted a penalty kick to put the Rams up 1-0.
Rocha's second goal of the night put Jefferson up 2-0 after junior Hunter Dyson stole the ball from the Bloomsburg goalkeeper before dishing off the Rocha for the one-timer in the 71st minute.
Junior Ian Lake scored his first of the match and second of the season just a few minutes later to put the contest out of reach in the 74th minute, 3-0. Lake played a loose ball off a Bloomsburg defender as he one-timed it under the crossbar.
Jefferson took 21 shots compared to Bloomsburg 12 while also leading shots on goal, 8-3. The Rams had a slight 4-3 edge on corner kicks as well.
Menjivar (W, 1-2-0) played all 90 minutes in goal for Jefferson, making three saves to earn his first collegiate shutout and win.
Jefferson Men's Soccer returns home to host Dominican in a CACC matchup on Saturday, Sept. 8 from Ravenhill Field. Action starts at 2:30 p.m.
