PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's soccer team (2-2-0, 1-0-0 CACC) defeated the Dominican Chargers (0-3-0, 0-1-0 CACC) in a 3-0 shutout victory in the conference battle on Saturday afternoon from Ravenhill Field.
Jefferson jumped out to the early advantage after goals in the 2nd and 6th minute to go up 2-0.
Senior captain Jason Rocha recorded the initial goal after playing a pass from sophomore Musa Kalombe. A few minutes later, junior transfer Sebastien Durand scored his first goal with Jefferson via a cross into the box from Rocha. Durand headed the ball into the upper 90, out of reach from the Dominican keeper.
The Rams took their 3-0 lead in the 36th minute after freshman Charlie Livesey, playing in his first collegiate game, crossed a ball to sophomore Theophilus Ijeboi, who converted the sliding shot for the goal. It came as Livesey's first point and Ijeboi's second career goal.
The physical conference affair featured eight yellow cards and one red card with Jefferson gathering four yellows.
Jefferson led shots, 8-6, and corner kicks, 8-3.
Freshman Andrew Mejivar (W, 2-2-0) recorded his second-straight shutout as he made two saves on the day.
Jefferson Men's Soccer now hosts Mercy in a nonconference matchup on Wednesday, Sept. 12 from Ravenhill Field. Action is set for 4 p.m.
