WILMINGTON, Del. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's soccer team (3-2-1, 2-0-1 CACC) played the Goldey-Beacom Lightning (1-6-1, 1-2-1 CACC) to a 3-3 draw on Thursday afternoon from Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, Del.
Jefferson scored three first-half goals in the tilt to own a 3-0 margin at halftime.
Fellow senior Andrew Sauers made it 2-0 in favor of Jefferson as he headed a corner off the foot of Rocha in the 25th minute of play.
Jefferson let shots, 8-2, in the opening 45 minutes with five on target and five corner opportunities.
But Goldey-Beacom came storming back over a seven-minute stretch in the middle of the second half.
The Lightning cut the edge down to 3-1 in the 64th minute after Joe Scarpinato converted Goldey-Beacom's first goal. Three minutes later a Lightning shot hit the left post before going it to get GBC within one. Goldey-Beacom found the equalizer in the 71st minute after winning a scramble in front of the net following a long free kick, 3-3.
The Rams were called for 22 fouls in the second half alone compared to the Lightning's eight. Jefferson managed seven shots in the period to Goldey-Beacom's four.
The match was sent into overtime. The Rams managed one shot over 20 extra minutes in overtime but could not find the game-winner as the road match ended in a draw.
Jefferson Men's Soccer now returns home to host Felician in a conference matchup on Saturday, Sept. 22 from Ravenhill Field at 2:30 p.m. following the women's contest against the Golden Falcons at noon.
